Principal’s Message Week of October 16, 2017

Dear Mott Hall Community,

Hope you have enjoyed your weekend with family and friends!

We concluded our week with a spectacular game! Our Mott Hall Community hosted its Annual 8th Grade Student/Staff Football Game tradition at Riverbank.  It went well and was fun.  Everyone in the community participated as players or spectators. Our staff won this year!  Our current 7th graders are challenged to beat the staff next year as 8th graders.  We followed our game with track relays where all grade levels participated.

We are committed to creating experiences for our Scholars that reaffirms the importance of unity and purpose when coming together as a community.  Excellence continues to be our standard!

We want to thank all the families that contributed to our Mott Hall Hurricane Maria Relief.  We collected hundreds of items that are being packaged and sent to Puerto Rico with Council Member Levine’s office.  We are grateful for your kindness!

On Tuesday, October 17th, we will host our Breakfast with the Principal at 8:15 am and discuss school goals, the implementation of the Advisory Curriculum, and upcoming school events.  Come enjoy a cup of hot coffee, pastry and roundtable discussion!

Mott Hall will be participating in the Annual District Six Middle School Fair at IS 143 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. Come and support and speak to prospective families on the benefits of attending Mott Hall!

On Wednesday, October 18th, students will be given progress reports to go home.  Please review your child’s progress report and sign and return to school.  You may always review your child’s current performance by accessing PupilPath.

On Wednesday, October 18th, the PTA will be hosting its first PTA Meeting at 6PM.  Please take the time to join us and participate in upcoming events and fundraising activities.

During this week, you will be receiving information regarding our fundraising efforts to support Mexico Earthquake Relief.

Do not miss our Parent Workshop Series Kick-off on Tuesday, October 24th at 5:30 PM.  Flyers will be sent home and more information will be shared with you at the end of the week.

Have a great week!

In collaboration,

Judith De Los Santos-Pena

Dear Mott Hall Community,

The key factor for the ultimate success of all students is the communication between school and home. Please reach out to your child’s teachers and guidance counselor if there are any concerns. The start of a new journey can sometimes pose challenges. We are all here to help and guide.

On a weekly basis, I will be sending a message that includes important information and events.  Please review your child’s assignments and grades on PupilPath.  You may access PupilPath directly from the Mott Hall website.  In addition, we send messages via our phone messenger and email.  Update your contact information with the school.

We closed a wonderful 1st week of October at Mott Hall.  The following After School activities began this week: Kaplan Course for Specialized High Schools, Chess, Band and Math Counts.  Our High School Fair was a great success!  Many schools presented to our families.  Our Scholars are getting ready for the future! Please enjoy the pictures that were taken at our HS Fair. They are posted on the school website.

We will continue to accept donations for Hurricane Maria Relief. We ask that you participate and send supplies to help our victims. Our drive will end on October 16, 2017.

Mott Hall partners with Urban Advantage and provides science experiences that allow our students to explore and discover.  We are excited to invite your family to visit the New York Aquarium, Bronx Zoo, American Museum of Natural History and the New York Botanical Garden.  Your child received an Urban Advantage voucher for complimentary admission and activities.  Review flyer sent home for more information.  Vouchers are to be used on designated dates.  It will begin this weekend on Sunday, October 8th at the New York Aquarium.

Our Annual Staff/Student Football Day is here! Mott Hall has a long-standing tradition of hosting a Staff/Student Football Game at Riverbank.  The school community will spend the day at Riverbank and enjoy a Football Game and track meets.  Join us on Friday, October 13, 2017!  Let us know if you can chaperone.

Principal’s Message September 29, 2017

Dear Mott Hall Families,

The school year has been off to a great start!  We welcomed our Scholars with much excitement and our Dean and Teachers have met with students to share our school expectations and new initiatives.  Our 6th graders are now acclimated, our 7th graders are learning about our high school process and our 8th graders are beginning to focus on the next step of their academic journeys.  We are all doing well and getting into our back to school routine!

Our “Dads Take Your Child to School” event went very well! Many Dads and relatives joined us for breakfast, speeches focused on the role and inspiration, Dads and male relatives provide.  Our Dads toured our school!

This week, we hosted our Curriculum Night and Information Fair.  Parents received information and applications to participate in opportunities offered by some of our partnerships (SASF. Music, NDI, Chess, Fordham STEP).  Parents attended teacher presentations and were given their child’s program to follow throughout the night.

On Monday, October 2, our Mott Hall Families will begin a Hurricane Maria Relief Effort to support Puerto Rico. A letter was sent home with information on the items we will be collecting.

We will be beginning our Afterschool Chess Program on Monday, October 2, 2017.  Contact the main office if you are interested in an application.

The Mott Hall School in collaboration with MS 278 will be hosting a HS Fair on October 5, 2017. Many top NYC schools will be joining us. Families will have the opportunity to speak to members of many schools in one place.  It will take place at MS 278 located on 421, 219th Street, a 5:00 PM.  All 7th and 8th grade families are welcome and encouraged to participate!

We expect high academic standards for each scholar. Be certain to communicate with your child and the school with any concerns.

PupilPath has now been updated for the 2017-2018 school year. You may access Pupilpath from our school website. If you have any issues, please contact Parent Coordinator Moran.

Have a good week.

In collaboration,

Principal De Los Santos-Pena
